25 Years of Toyota in Canada

Only one day after Toyota celebrated the grand opening of its new production facility in Mississippi, key personnel headed north of the border to Canada to celebrate a production milestone there as well. This one, however, wasn't the opening of a new plant, but rather the celebration of the hard work of another.

More specifically Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada has now been producing some of the most reliable vehicles in the world for 25 years now. The first plant, which is located in Cambridge, Ontario, first opened its doors in 1986. It had an annual production capacity of 50,000 units per year, and it employed around 1,000 workers. Since then, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada has grown into a total of three plants that carry a total production capacity of around 458,000, while employing 6,600.

"Toyota is an essential part of Ontario's auto industry, and a big reason why the province continues to be the leading jurisdiction in North America for vehicle assembly,'' explains Brad Duguid, Ontario's Minister of Economic Development and Innovation.

Dguid's praise comes after three of America's largest automakers actually shrank their operations in Ontario, in an effort to restructure following their collective bankruptcies. This resulted in tens of thousands of jobs being lost on one end, while Toyota continued to actually create jobs on the other.

Of course, we'd expect nothing less from the makers of the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Tacoma. The company's investment in creating jobs and hiring skilled workers can be seen in every new Toyota that Hoy-Fox Toyota carries at 11165 Gateway West El Paso, TX 79935, and we invite you to come visit us in person to see for yourself.
