New Toyota Safety Research Group Embarks On New Endeavors

While we here at Hoy-Fox Toyota know that our favorite Japanese automaker is dedicated to keeping everyone on the road safe, we also realize that some skeptics out there may require proof of this notion. That's why we'd like to turn your attention to a newly found division, the Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC).

This new group was formed in January of 2011, and its aim is to team with some of the leading minds of today in order to develop new safety technologies and make breakthroughs in understanding how accidents impact victims. So far, the new sector has worked on 17 projects with 12 educational partners. How, as we head into 2012, the company is planning to move forward with four new projects with four entirely new partners.

"We are proud to welcome our new research partners, whose important work promises to advance our understanding significantly in the areas of active safety, driver distraction and protecting the most at-risk drivers," explains Chuck Gulash, Senior Executive Engineer at the Toyota Technical Center and CSRC Director. "Today's announcements cap a successful first year for Toyota's Collaborate Safety Research Center and our efforts to act as a catalyst for the advancement of automotive safety for the entire industry. We look forward to further expanding our talent-sharing research model and helping advance the development of safety technologies that can benefit all of society."

What do these new projects entail? A wide range of topics, from how a crash can impact the elderly to how drivers behave before driving. As for the new partners... The Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center is planning to team with Virginia Tech, George Washington University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Virginia. Each school will be assigned with a different project, and some will even be helping with multiple projects too.

Doesn't it make you feel safer knowing that the accident prevention and safety technology in the new Toyota models that we know and love will be getting even better as the years go on? For Toyota, safety is a never-ending endeavor, but the effort is more than worth it to protect drivers in the greater El Paso area and beyond.
