Toyota Makes Advancements in Ethanol Production

Toyota already holds the top spot for green car engineering, such as hybrid powertrains found in the new Toyota Prius line of vehicles. To further advancements in travel and fuel consumption, the Japanese auto maker is looking to ethanol. A new yeast (not the bread kind) is being tested by the auto maker to help make a better burning alternative fuel.
This newly developed yeast efficiently ferments xylose, a sugar produced when plant fibers are broken down, and is resistant to fermentation-inhibiting substances.
