Toyota Aims to Sell Many Hydrogen Cars by 2020

Looking to make sure all forms of alternative fuel sources are covered, Toyota is always exploring different ways to keep its vehicles on the road in the most efficient way possible. The Japanese automaker already outsells the competition in the gas-electric hybrid game, but Toyota intends to produce "tens of thousands" of hydrogen powered cars by 2020.

Toyota Makes Advancements in Ethanol Production

Toyota already holds the top spot for green car engineering, such as hybrid powertrains found in the new Toyota Prius line of vehicles. To further advancements in travel and fuel consumption, the Japanese auto maker is looking to ethanol. A new yeast (not the bread kind) is being tested by the auto maker to help make a better burning alternative fuel.

This newly developed yeast efficiently ferments xylose, a sugar produced when plant fibers are broken down, and is resistant to fermentation-inhibiting substances.

The newly developed yeast achieves one of the highest ethanol fermentation levels in the world, and is…

With the 2012 Toyota Plug-In Prius fast approaching, there's no like the present to test the car's capabilities. And, that's exactly what Toyota is doing. In fact, the Japanese automaker has just released initial results from testing done with the cooperation of EDF Energy, in London.

Toyota has been planning an onslaught of Prius models for the next several years, including a "MPV" (the foreign equivalent of a minivan), a sporty coupe and now, apparently, a pickup truck. The Japanese auto maker hopes to combine their most aerodynamic vehicle with one of history's…
