25 Years of Toyota in Canada

Only one day after Toyota celebrated the grand opening of its new production facility in Mississippi, key personnel headed north of the border to Canada to celebrate a production milestone there as well. This one, however, wasn't the opening of a new plant, but rather the celebration of the hard work of another.

More specifically Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada has now been producing some of the most reliable vehicles in the world for 25 years now. The first plant, which is located in Cambridge, Ontario, first opened its doors in 1986. It had an annual production capacity of 50…

Hoy-Fox Toyota remembers a time when owning your first car as a teenager was a serious status symbol. As Kristin Nevels, of the American Automobile Association puts it, "It was a rite of passage and something to look forward to. You were only one of the cool kids if you drove and had your own vehicle."1 These days, however, teenagers seem to be losing interest in cars, as new means of staying connected don't require them to be out on the road. Take for example, Facebook, Twiiter, or the introduction of the Smartphone. These services and devices are…

Toyota and Ford Work Together On Hybrid Truck Engines

Toyota and Ford are teaming...what? We know, we were very surprised too. But, considering the two market giants have such highly-varied, complementary expertise and one common goal - to develop a rear-wheel drive hybrid system - the venture actually makes a lot of sense. While Japanese automaker Toyota brings to the table roughly 10 years of experience working with hybrid technology, the Blue Oval offers vast knowledge of the Pickup and SUV segments.

With a low base price and plenty of miles per gallon, the Japanese auto maker is successful at targeting their 2012 Toyota Yaris to the youth market. Every student needs a car to get to and from those college courses, or for picking up friends. If you live in a dorm and don't need a vehicle just yet, you certainly will once graduation is over, and it's time to commute daily.

The four-cylinder…

With the 2012 Toyota Plug-In Prius fast approaching, there's no like the present to test the car's capabilities. And, that's exactly what Toyota is doing. In fact, the Japanese automaker has just released initial results from testing done with the cooperation of EDF Energy, in London.

While the demonstration isn't complete yet, interim findings show that London-based businesses and organizations participating in the three-year testing have logged an average journey distance of seven-point-three miles, an average speed of 17.7 mph, and an average recharge time of one hour and twelve minutes. Participants with access to…

There's been a plethora of jokes, songs and trite remarks inspired by backseat drivers and/or backseat driving, over the years. Now, we can add to that list a kid's game. Indeed, ToyToyota, a new brand from Japanese automaker Toyota has launched its first "toy". And, it's called: "Backseat Driver".

Designed to keep kids occupied during road trips ToyToyota's "Backseat Driver" comes in the form of a free GPS-based app and is compatible with iPhones, iPod Touch media players, and iPads. Hoy-Fox Toyota has to admit, it's actually pretty clever.

A mild racing game, "Backseat…

Don't think it's very patriotic to drive a Toyota? Think again.

Take the Toyota Corolla, for example. Even though Toyota is by all rights a Japanese automaker, the Corolla is in more "American" than any other car worldwide - foreign or domestic. As such it continues to rank first on Cars.com's American-Made Index.

In ranking cars on their American-Made Index, Cars.com measures how "American" each contender is based on sales, where the vehicle is manufactured, and parts' country of origin. Cars.com also discounts any cars with a foreign parts content greater than 15 percent, models…
